BESS Glossary | Rebaba BESS (Battery Energy Storage System) A system that stores electricity for use when it’s needed most. BESS improves grid stability, lowers energy costs, enables backup power, and makes renewable energy more reliable. At Rebaba, our BESS units use repurposed EV batteries in scalable, circular designs. BMS (Battery Management System) The BMS monitors and manages each battery’s health, safety, charging, and discharging. It ensures the system operates within safe limits and helps extend battery life. Capacity (kWh) Measured in kilowatt-hours, this tells you how much energy a battery can store. Think of it like the size of a fuel tank. The more kWh, the longer it can deliver power. Cell, Module, Pack Cell : The smallest unit, like a single AA battery but rechargeable. Module : A group of cells working together in a structured format. Pack : Multiple modules combined into a complete, functional energy storage unit. At Rebaba, we build battery packs by assembling tested, high-quality second-life modules. Chemistries: LFP, NMC, NCA LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) : Long life, stable, lower energy density. Great for safety and long-term applications. NMC (Nickel Manganese Cobalt) : Balanced performance and energy density, commonly used in EVs. NCA (Nickel Cobalt Aluminum) : Offers high energy density while replacing manganese with aluminum, an environmentally more sustainable choice. Different chemistries suit different needs depending on cost, safety, and performan
